Many atheists say stop celebrating Christmas and
Easter. Several religions believe celebrating Halloween is evil and
forbidden, the broken hearts say cancel Valentines day my soul is
hurting, some Indians say Columbus day is an insult to their people and
it has to stop being celebrated, it's only a matter of time before
Thanksgiving gets wiped out by the vegans or some radical group of
thankless people who feel their rights
are violated by my beliefs in eating turkey. Well guess what while you're stomping your
feet having a tantrum over my beliefs your trampling all over my rights and freedom. If you don't wanna celebrate Holidays then don't, but stop trying to
convince the world that your way is the only way, because it just so
happens many of us like having holidays off work, reconnecting with family and friends and celebrating our beliefs regardless of how
unnecessary or mundane they may seem to you. I'm not hating, your certainly entitled to your opinion but on the same not so am I so stop trying to push my opinions out the window. Oh and by the way I say Merry Christmas not happy holidays get over it.
Loved this Scott and very much agree with you especially the last words!! I had a student one year who was not allowed to celebrate any holidays, because of her religion. To be politically correct in a public school setting, on any holidays we couldn't celebrate any holidays and if we were having a celebration with cake or candy it was just for the sake of it and not for the actual holiday. Quite annoying and not going to lie and say this didn't tick me off at times. That is truly what your post made me think of and remember.
ReplyDeletethere is a saying at the Doctrine (Wakefield Doctrine) holidays are the cost of living in (any) culture, but the cost gets a bit higher each year, it seems.
ReplyDeleteWe also say that Thanksgiving is most rogerian of Holidays, where not only are you told what to celebrate, but the time is scheduled, it is always on a Thursday (is there any other holiday able to claim the same day of the week each year?) they even have the menu worked out!
Enjoyed the Post!
Awesome... some people don't realize that by trying to fight with their rights to not do something other people do they are squashing other people's rights to celebrate. It is kind of a big nasty circle!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you Scott! One of my kids went to a Jewish preschool and the kids were not allowed to wear costumes to school. Basically, Halloween was not even mentioned. Now, my oldest goes to a Catholic high school (we are an interfaith family -- thus the mixed messages...) and they had classes on the Jewish high holidays. My son was a bit confused since his 2 brothers (who go to public school) did not have school. As a family, we promote celebrating pretty much everything so it can be difficult when the schools don't comply with that approach.
ReplyDeleteI agree. We have no right to impose stuff on others. Each individual is intelligent enough to make the right choices. So, we gotta learn to mind our own business and enjoy life!
ReplyDeleteGreat comments as usual my friends and I have to agree with you Ruchira it is up to the individual to decide what to do or not to do, that's what freedom is all about. I would never judge another person or try to change them for not feeling the same way about something as I do but in return I ask that they not judge or try to change me.
